Happy Friday Sinaloa MS Families

Thank you for a good three days of school.  Students are busy learning about the school as well as campus and classroom expectations.  We are excited to see what the coming year brings!

Today, during homeroom, ALL STUDENTS were shown the following video:

This very short informative video shows students the history and "whys" regarding a Solar Eclipse.  The last bit of information on the video addresses the dangers associated with an eclipse.  As a school, we have to concentrate on speaking with our students that not only is this an exciting historical event, choosing not to follow teacher and staff direction can lead to damaged eyes.  We will not be providing or creating any special glasses or tools to view it with.  

On Monday, August 21st, we will NOT HAVE NUTRITION and simply have the normal five minute passing period.  During the passing periods, teachers and staff will be out of their classrooms to "extra" monitor students they may see looking directly into the sun should they make the choice to do so.  PE classes will be inside.  Students who need to use the restroom during class, will be escorted by a campus supervisor.  

We are asking teachers who are able, to live stream the event!  While not every one will be able to do so, students will have 3 classes during the time of the eclipse and hopefully be able to view it once or twice.  

Finally, we are asking families to spend some time talking to your children about this wonderful event and to counsel them about the dangers of looking straight into the sun.  While we have spent time talking about it as well as the dangers, students could choose to ignore us.  The more adults they hear it from the better!  The SVUSD is also sending all Simi Valley families an informative email as well.

Lockers will be assigned by the homeroom teachers on Tuesday, August 22, 2017.

Good Afternoon Sinaloa MS Families!

 

As you are aware of, all SVUSD families need to have created an Aeries Parent Portal account.  Not only does this portal serve to inform you about a student's academic progress, it has other features as well.  Changing student contacts, phone numbers, email addresses, etc. are also available to you.  

 

Currently, besides needing to have created a portal, all families for each student enrolled MUST complete the Student Data Confirmation piece.  It must be FULLY completed.  It is a series of questions that must be clicked on and checked to be considered completed. 

 

In order for any Sinaloa student to receive a locker, both the Student Data Confirmation AND the Parent/Student Signature Sheet found in the agenda book (or the neon orange paper which was sent home the first day of school or online).  Students whose parents HAVE NOT completed these two things will not receive a locker on Tuesday, August 22 during their homeroom class.  Should you not complete this by Monday evening, your student will have to wait to get their locker at another arranged time with their teacher.  Tuesday morning, we are not able to handle lots of students and parents needing to use a computer here to do so.  Please come see us today or Monday to ensure we have time to help you out if you are encountering difficulties with the process.  

 

The district has been sending emails all summer regarding your Aeries Portal Account and Sinaloa MS discussed this at our Orientations as well as with our students both during morning announcements and during classes.  

 

Lockers are optional for all students.  Should you choose for your student not to have a locker, we still require both the signature sheet and the Student Data confirmation to be completed.  We need acknowledgement of rules and polices in addition to allowing your student to have access to any phone/computer usage while at school.

Note: Students who choose to use a Sinaloa locker must secure it with a Sinaloa lock. Locks purchased from other schools or stores are not allowed. If you aren’t sure if it's a Sinaloa lock, please bring your lock to the ASB office. Locks are $8.00 and can be paid by cash, check, credit or debit card. They may also be purchased at the MySchoolBucks online Student Store.

 

Students who attended Sinaloa Middle School in Spring 2017 and received all "O's and/or S's" on their final report card will get first choice on their lockers.

Welcome letter sent to all Sinaloa students 8-16-17 6:30 pm:

 

Good Evening Sinaloa Sabers!

Welcome to Sinaloa MS!  We have been waiting for you and the time is here!  School begins tomorrow at 8:15 am when all students will report to their assigned homeroom classes.  Students can look at their homeroom assignment which is posted at the front of the school.  Students will receive their full schedules in homeroom. 

FOR THOSE STUDENTS WHO WILL HAVE A ZERO PERIOD... classes will not begin until TUESDAY, AUGUST 29th.  This is due to our beginning of school special schedules and taking things slow for students to learn their new transitions.  In addition, for the first five days of school students will have a staggered lunch with different times each day due to our special schedules. 

Tomorrow students only need to bring to school their agenda book (ours or store bought), paper, pen, pencil and a backpack or book bag to keep things in.  DO NOT BRING TO SCHOOL PE CLOTHES OR LOCKS UNTIL THESE ITEMS ARE NEEDED.  Lockers will not be assigned to students until next week when they receive their textbooks. 

Tomorrow morning in the front of the school by the counseling office, our PTSA volunteers will be selling agenda books and locks.  If you purchase them tonight online, and bring your printed purchase receipt there will be a speed line for you. 

Tomorrow and Friday the school day ends at 3:05.  REMEMBER, that Thursdays are a 2:05 dismissal time.  THANK YOU ahead of time for practicing patience in our parking lot.  New families need to learn the routine and this takes time.  Please practice safety when driving in the lot. 

We look forward to meeting your students tomorrow morning with our very special Sinaloa greeting taking place out in the front of the school!
